Those who blame the BBC for stirring up panic buying....

....and there were plenty of you. I suggest that you look at the Mail Online top story, then compare it to the BBC, Guardian etc.

    Cue ludicrous whataboutery and excuses!

      Wow!

That should be some sort of criminal offence deliberately stirring up mass hysteria.

I partly blamed the BBC as having a role to play in panic buying but not because I'm anti-BBC. I've often supported the BBC stating that it is often accused of being biased both by left and right-wing voters which probably suggests it's fairly neutral overall.

Its quite clear that they didnít help by telling people not to panic buy fuel, it was almost like they did it on purpose.

Have you bothered looking at the Mail's top story before commenting?

Far worse scaremongering than anything the BBC may have done.

Nobody reads the Mail, the first I heard about the fuel shortage is on the BBC radio. I then tried to fill my van at 5 different garages.

You were presumably listening to BBC radio anyway? So of course you would hear the news first from a media outlet you use. I'd be surprised if you found out from something you don't read...

I am talking about today. You didn't bother looking, did you?

The Mail, sadly, is the most read online newspaper in the UK, so plenty of people most definitely do read it. Have a look.

And programmes like This Morning donít do the same, with money provided by you buying stuff thatís advertised?

It may be a shock to you, but television programmes cost money to make.

Of course I am aware costs are involved..if itv want to have a celebrity based breakfast prog fair enough..I am not having to direct fund this with fear of prosecution by not paying...the bbc involve celebrity luvies from films books music daily on a range of programmes.. then tell us they do not do adverts..well get rid of the endorsing and promoting..licence payers expect better

Re: Those who blame the BBC for stirring up panic buying....

You mean they cover the arts? If you take away books, TV shows, films, music and the like what would their arts coverage look like?

And it's well worth noting that what you're talking about is a small fraction of what the license fee pays for. Further, I suspect that some of what you're talking about may (don't know for sure obviously) be made by BBC studios who actually subsidise the license fee a little through the profits they make.

When you say 'licence payers' you mean those who agree with you, of course, not the majority.

If the viewers (licence payers) didnít watch those programmes, they wouldnít be made.

A lot of licence-payers donít like MOTD, or Masterchef, or Eastenders.

Interesting, isn't it,that the anti BBC brigade have twisted this thread away from the scaremongering of the Mail to their same tired old attacks on the BBC - a broadcasting service that's the envy of the world, along with the NHS which I suspect many of the same drones would like to see privatised.
