Agree, they've been a joke for the last 60 years, not just under Ashley!
How is being in the Premiership suffering.

They needn't worry. It's the citizens of Saudi Arabia that will do the suffering for them now.

Still, as long as the new owners can shell out for a few Ł50 million players, who cares about a few trivial human rights abuses!

Not really long suffering but then also Luton, Wimbledon, Oxford, Coventy and other smaller clubs have all won major trophies since they last did.

I guess it depends on what constitutes as suffering in this case. It’s no secret that Newcastle fans are delusional about how big they think they are, so suspect suffering to them is not competing at the top of the prem

Yeah think under Ashley there were relegated from twice and went back straight up with times - this dreadful period was far more successful for them than the whole of the 1980s were for the club.

                This 'sleeping giant/massive club' guff

I had a bit of an argument with a Newcastle acquaintance a few years ago over beers in the Lass O'Gowrie.

He basically said I was wrong when I said I attended a game at St James Park just before Keegan joined then with a 13k crowd, including a healthy 800-1000 from Luton. So I checked, and that season they also had a crowd of 9,419 v Wrexham. Two consecutive seasons against us the crowd was 13k.

They really ain't all that loyal. Certainly not compared to Manchester United when they dropped into the Second Division in the mid-70's (to avoid being humiliated by the mighty Hatters, of course).

Deluded, as are their great mates at Sunderland.
