Who is wrong - bookies or us?

Oddschecker have us as 6th favourites for relegation, where as most luton supporters are optimistic for the season ahead. I can't work out why all the bookies are rating us so poorly.

This is basically saying consensus expectations have us finishing 6th from bottom.

Us fans will always be more optimistic at the start of the season but that sounds about right to me.

Put it this way, if we did finish 6th from bottom the board would probably consider it nothing spectacular but job done for another year.

I think the board (2020 and/or Outlaws) would be disappointed with 6th from bottom but philosophical about it.

We have upwards momentum and are obviously striving to maintain it. Set the bar high and see how far we can go....

Agreed there, 10-14th is probably realistic, but with a bit of momentum we've got a puncher's chance of better. Will depend on the new boys and how few turn out to be duffers.

Remember Leicester to win the Premiershite @ 5000/1 . No , never , couldn't happen in our lifetime

Actually 7th as Derby are missing from the list and surely that is because they are a nailed on basket case....

Because if fans of other clubs are betting they will just think small club with small wage bill.

They won't know anything about our signings.

And 6th favourites for relegation must be the best they have had us in all 3 seasons in Champ.

We have a large level of variance this year. Unlike the old Prem clubs, who should all finish top half, and those with small budgets like Posh and Blackpool, we could conceivably finish anywhere between 4th and 24th so the odds reflect that. Yes, we as fans think we have a better squad but to outsiders we finished last season mid-table and lost our player of the year and Big Mick is away.
Barnsley last year were similar. Many were talking them up but it wasn't a stretch to see them having a difficult season.
If NJ stays and the new signings are successes then we will outperform expectations easily but there are lots of other scenarios that could happen which means our odds for relegation aren't that big.

              Agreed.
The bookies will of course know about our new signings. They don't just make up the odds with no consideration and never give anything away.
There are of course cases of those that perform far better (and worse) than odds suggest. Let's hope we are the Barnsley of 21/22 (without the play off loss !).

Where are Barnsley going to finish this year then? Do you have a crystal ball then?

                  No idea.
Apologies that it wasn't clear enough for you.
I was referring to hoping that Luton will be the 2021/22 version of Barnsley from last season i.e massively outperform the expectation of the bookies.
