    Season expectations/ hopes

Posted by Frog Hatter on 20/7/2021, 11:02:46

NJ is looking to finish higher than last season - I would expect the play off’s would be targeted. Seems crazy to be saying given where we have from…even crazier that it would appear a genuine possibility.

Recruitment has been fantastic with the newbies settling in well. We have genuine goal threats, pace and a strong spine to the team. Defence has been solid - bravo 2020.

Can’t wait for the season to start…the most excited I have been done the 80’s. Even if the team takes a few games to settle I will keep the faith.

I was thinking the other night quite how remarkable our rise has been. It's happened so quickly, and coincided with a lot of craziness in the world, that I don't know that I've fully appreciated how far we've come.

Those hard years in the conference were such a slog, character building is an understatement. The mantra 'everything happens for a reason' is sometimes overused, but I think in our case it feels apt. Without some of those dark days in the conference, and without John Still steadying a very unsteady ship, I'm not sure we'd be where we are now.

I'm just enjoying the ride. Last season was a huge pleasure, being able to watch games where every result didn't feel like life or death. I'd happily take another couple of those seasons, right now, but I do think this squad looks so strong in terms of how deep it is. Keeping all these players happy is the key, but if NJ can do that, then there's no reason why we couldn't reach the Play Offs.

Would be happy with 12th again. However looking at other championship clubs business it's been very quiet. That means we have a good chance to target higher.

Think we might take a few games to hit our stride but I think we’ll end up roughly where we finished last season.

If it sticks together I think 22-23 will be where we really start to push.

Last season's final position was quite remarkable. I think KDH was worth a significant number of points and quite a few league positions. On paper recruitment has been excellent, however we are unlikely to have unearthed the "new" KDH.

The squad is now better than before but 12th or better would signal a very good season.

We look (on paper) more dynamic going forward and Jones has recruited to get us playing on the front foot. KDH ability to get on the ball, make that clinical pass or run past a couple of players hasn't been replaced but we do now have other players capable of beating their man and making something happen. Might need to be little patient but looking forward to seeing some good football as it was quite boring for most of last season, understandably so.

I reckon another 4 seasons before we can realistically attempt a playoff charge.
Clubs do it all the time, get in 5,6, or 7 players that look like they might do well, but in reality only a couple will cut the mustard.

Much rather the club under promise and over deliver. So long as we stay up I'll be happy. Anything better than last year and I'll be delighted. From minus 30 points to where we are now is brilliant in it's own right.

Let’s see how we go. Never too high, never too low. Mid table would be a good season.

On paper look decent signings but you never know till were up and running, could be rubbish or good

I always prefer to wait for at least the first six games of the season before getting to carried away/downhearted.

Some of the signings will work out, some won't. It's always the way.

I personally would be very happy with another comfortable mid-table season.

All seem good signings on paper from knowing nothing whatsoever about them - as you say some may take a while to step up - CMG for exmaple used to tearing aprt l2 defence - championship is a bit different. campbell wont know the league etc

I'm optimistic but never one to get carried away.

8-14th is where I expect us to be.
                    Playoffs would be a bonus.

I don't see us being relegated.

Lansbury is an interesting signing. I remember watching him for England Under 21's when he played for Arsenal and thought he would be a superstar.

According to Villa and Bristol fans I know he has been very mediocre (understatement) over the last four years.

Could be a great signing if NJ can work his magic or he could be on a downward trajectory and be a massive flop.

That's why I don't get to carried away with signings. We are still on a very tight budget and the majority of our signings are calculated gambles. It has to be this way.

Weetabix leg muscles. 50 games last 4 seasons , however if he's used correctly then maybe we can get a tune out of him in patches.

Come the end of the season, I'll be hoping for:

                        1) A top 6 finish
                        2) A good run in both cups
                        3) Big Mick (the Legend that he is) to have been given the all clear.

I will however settle for an absolute shit season and just avoid relegation if number (3) is successfully achieved

Top of the table when the next transfer window opens. Then lose 10 of our squad for £200m and finish the season 18th.

Play off final and losing on this occasion would be great. Going up we are not ready for financially but the cash to the club would be superb
