    The future

Posted by Crème Brûlée on 18/7/2021, 23:51:31

Are we (humans) just unwitting intermediaries, a necessary stepping stone, required to create inorganic beings freed of the constraints of biological beings. So that when there's no environment left for us that we can inhabit it won't matter. Our ideas and ingenuity will carry on regardless, transferred over into lifeforms that can travel at the speed of light.

Have you been reading the 2001 series by Arthur C. Clarke?

it's all in area 51, the Borg have been there since the 1960's and regularly dip into parallel universes and galaxies through a series of stargates and wormhole generators.

Old Sealed Knot drinking song, friend of mine at the time wrote it while we drank a little. The Firm heard it and nicked it.

We are not real. Just SIMS being owned and played by a far superior alien race for their entertainment. Prove I'm wrong.

I just put that out there as an example of what many would consider one of the ultimate technological achievements. Humans are limited in their current form. I wonder what it is that drives humans to destroy their own habitat. The best I can come up with is that we are only partway through our evolution and something within us knows that we can continue in another form that won't depend on the same things that we currently depend on. We are currently working out how to achieve nuclear fusion, quantum computing, and unleashing artificial intelligence, perhaps we are on the brink of a new post-human era, the foundations of which we are actually building.

It's probably because we as individuals are only on the planet for a short time, so can't envisage that the long-term effects will us personally.

Not sure AI will be anything like the headlines any time soon but it is possible eventually I suppose. I often think everything has already happened and each of us is just being given a snapshot of what happened at X point in time. Almost as if we volunteered to go on a fairground ride called life, on the proviso that we have to shed all memory of what we were before this current lifetime, but safe in the knowledge that once we die here we just go back to wherever we were when we agreed to go on the ride. And then we can choose something else to experience.
