    Bad away days

Posted by Music Critic on 3/5/2021, 20:41:22

    Let's have a football post

Forgetting the nightmare that was most of the conference years or those relegation-confirming matches, what other away days stick in your mind as shockers?

For me a 3-0 defeat at Charlton when they were playing at Selhurst. A miserable Luton turn out was matched by the players' display and we were 3 down after the first 25 minutes

6-0 cup replay at Soton although the pub before the game was a laugh

    6-1 QPR early 90's

Des Walker scoring his only professional goal in the 90th minute in the season we got relegated out of the top flight. 1-1 and we never won away all season

    Must be loads of others

Oldham away on a Tuesday night in 2001 I think. We were absolutely woeful, tiny Town following. Was the second time I'd been there that season as arrived to find the game postponed previously!

Pretty much all conference away days were good, despite the football in most cases.

For me the worst I've felt directly after a game is the Wimbledon play off game in Manchester, but it was a cracking day out before and after - there was a bit of 'bother' with a local offy!

Colchester away. Terrible traffic on the way, got soaked walking to the ground, conceded two goals in the same manner as the year before, think that was where Berry broke his leg (?), soaked on the way back to the car and someone wrapped their car around a tree on the way back. Absolute crap from start to finish

Cheated out of the game and battered in Coventry on the way home.

Valentines Day was the 2-1 win - first away win for 14 months - the David Preece free kick that he passed to himself to set up Dowie's late winner. The 4-0 defeat was New Year's Eve. Two days later we hammered Southampton 6-1.

Nope. The game I’m talking about was actually 13th Feb 2016. Valentine’s weekend (I remember it for a reason)

That forest game was new years day if I recall, and I'm sure we scored earliest goal of the day....only to concede the last.

That's right. We scored in the 2nd minute or something. We conceded so many late goals that year.

We just weren't very good that season and was the start of a horrible decade of decline (with the 1994 FA cup run a rare highlight)

It was also the day qpr won 4-1 at Old Trafford live on ITV. They scored after sbout 30 seconds and were 2 up after about 5 mins. They were 3 up at halftime.

I remember watching it at my cousins house after going to the City Ground.
