Collins and Nombe and season so far

    Posted by F Block on 1/5/2021, 18:50:12

Great little run at the end of the season.

Win Tuesday and last game on Saturday could give us a finish that to be honest very few of us would have thought possible.

Finish above Stoke is a personal thing for Nathan and by god he has deserved it. Sorry Godders for bringing up the almighty but sure you won't mind.

Cant wait to be allowed back in next season. this has been purgatory and just unjust for all football fans. But especially Town fans who have deserved these ripe fields of play for so long.

After last seasons heroics in the last 8 games we were all desperate to get back in the grounds and supports our so deserved team.

But no....I Follow and 3 counties commentary. Not the same and even more a shame as this season the lads have delivered an unbelievable performance.

Today I found myself screaming at collo time and time again. First chance he fouled at a corner. Next he was given the ball in the box and he completely missed the ball. Next chance another foul . Next play a cross that went over the stand.

Time and time today he was awful.

    And then the penalty.

Weak effort and exactly same as Watford pen. He was lucky that one one in !

The guy has no confidence and it shows.

After the game I was scrolling old you tube town videos and watched the season we came up from League 1. Without Collo we would not have come up . No Doubt. Not even close.

He is a legend. Simple. A legend question.

But on current form he doesn't deserve a place. And the big question is do we keep him.

Unfortunately for the good of the club he needs to go.

good games all season is not enough. Our club is on the up and over the years we have shed players who will not make the grade.
For Collo its time to end this suffering.

Who can be honest and say they have watched him in the last 20 games without shouting at the telly oh for fxxk sake collo !!

Nombe ...... I struggle for words .....why ....why ....

Top season ... Let us back soon bring on QPR away 3300 we take over west London

Birmingham , Forrest , Coventry , we are coming 40 mins on the train always a top day out.

Sunderland I dare you to get promoted. We will invade

As I posted on Monday, Hyde away was seven years ago this week - who would have dared to think that day that seven years later we would be in the top half of the Championship - a truly remarkable comeback.

I would keep Collins in a heartbeat.

        - He'll have a rest over the close season, after running himself into the ground earlier this season
        - He'll get a proper pre-season under his belt, unlike last summer
        - He won't have any more after-effects of Covid, we hope
        - He won't be shouldering the vast majority of the goal scoring burden by himself any more, thanks to Adebayo

I reckon all of those factors will see him back to his best next season. And if he leaves for nothing, I don't know who else we can get to adequately replace him without spending money or breaking our wage structure. But then, I do trust our recruitment team to have a plan if we need one, probably involving a player I don't know anything about!

It might not be our choice though. I woudl hazard a guess we have offered him a contract extension. But he may get more elsewhere (derby nd preston supposed to be interested - both can offer him more money, maybe only one can offer him championship football)

Oh, absolutely - and the same goes for the other out-of-contract players, of course. I can just imagine the "why did we let him go?" whines if someone like Moncur leaves, completely ignoring the possibility that it wasn't actually our choice to let him do so.

TBH when Jake Howells and Alex Lawless were released a lot were surprised. But we moved on and Sheehan was an upgrade (cant say the same about jordan cook tbf) - but the squad in general was.

Only players we haven't adequately replaced are stacey and JJ - which isnt surprising. Having said that of the out of contract players the one i would be most disappointed to see leave would be pelly. The journey we have had with him, his infuence around the club etc. Plus cangt see him stuck on 297 - and he still has to score for us in the prem to complete an unusual set

In my opinion recruitment is hit and miss. Always has been, always will be. Our management and board are talking up the importance of recruitment in the upcoming close season, quite rightly. But it's not as though the club has a perfect record on recruitment, even in recent times. Morrell and Nombe, for example.

I've never forgotten how, when Steve Howard left, fans were saying it was a great deal and we could use the transfer money to replace him. We ended up buying Sam Parkin and Adam Boyd.

I would like Collins to stay, simply because there is no guarantee that we could replace him with someone significantly better.

We bought Adam Boyd because jayten had pocketed all the money and he was all we could afford. He was a very good striker. Just not at championship level.

Thanks, although it just feels like common sense rather than anything particularly good on my part! Still, after some of the negative reactions to my posts in recent days, it's nice to get a positive response.
