I think if you have “dominant” centre backs it’s less of a problem, a lot of very good teams have got by with only a couple of players who were genuinely good in the air, but they were really good.

Agree. Foster and Donaghy. With Harford helping out at set peices.

Mal was an amazing player. Good in the air but not too tall. Not fast but hardly ever out paced. I think Pleat once aid he wasn't the best on the ball! But boy was he composed with it at his feet. And such a great reader of the game. Suprised he isn't talked about more as a legend of the club.

How football has changed really. I can't ever recall Pleaty or Cloughie banging on about matching up , you play your best side and let the other team worry about you

I don't think anyone is saying that you have to be tall to be good - we're just saying that it is another asset which Rea has. I'm not really sure how it has suddenly become such a big deal.

I agree! Just seemed people were suggesting we had to pick Rea because he is tall. Which is a bit junior school 'pick the big lad'

Thats why its become a big deal. Some trying to perhaps justify his place in the team because he might win a few headers.

I think Rea still has something to offer, but he perhaps needs taking out the firing line for a week or too.

It depends on the opposition, for me. If we are playing against a team of giants, then we have to take notice of that and be prepared for it, especially at set pieces. Not to do so would be extremely naive. But that's not going to happen in every game, obviously.

Not sure that has ever worked. Have we ever stopped any of these giants? Dont think our record against that type of side is good no?
Considering that Pearson and Bradley are not exactly small specimens, i wouldn't consider either particularity dominant unfortunately, but if they cant handle it, not sure Rea makes a lot of difference. I fancy Collins is better defensively at set plays too.

My own take is we might do better playing footballers against the giants. Pace and skill might do better than just trying to match them.

                But....its all just opinion.
