    Outsider/Crumpshall

Yes that was Derek Kevan I was talking about yesterday, for some reason his name just didn't come into my memory bank. I was unavailable after I posted it and his name came to me about 3 o'clock this morning. Bloody nuisance when that happens. Just as a matter of interest do you recall if he then played against us and if so did he score? I think that was a very important signing for us, largely because of the follow up with Keith Allen, and subsequent signings around that time

Derek Kevan scored against us back in the 1950s when he played for West Brom. But not after he left us.

remember when he signed for us I was exited when dad said he was ex England International was sitting on the wall that separated the bobbers and the kenilworth terrace when he scored two against Tranmere in his home debut ( well thats how I remember it )

Derek Kevan scored the 2nd goal that day after 12 minutes. Ray Whittaker scored the 1st just a minute before. From memory it was very foggy that day

I did say that was how I remember it but you have now just jogged my memory ( should have remembered my namesake scoring ()

I used to sit on that wall at that time, probably sat next to each other!!

Fairly certain that we didn’t play Stockport while he was with them.

Whilst looking at Wikipedia to see how long he stayed there, I noticed that he later became landlord of the Moss Rose pub next to Macclesfield’s ground.

I remember being very excited when we signed Derek Kevan, a former England international!
The fact I had a bubble gum card that featured him made it even more special!!
I have a feeling that Stockport Co. were the 4th Division champIons at the end of the season that Keith Allen signed for us and he received a medal retrospectively, quite a long time later, for his contribution even though he was a Luton player.
I’m sure many of us remember when Keith gave away a penalty by catching the ball after mistaking a phantom whistler’s whistle in the Oak Road for the referee’s, ironically it was against Stockport!

It was John Moore who caught the ball in the Oak Rd end to give away the penalty

I always thought that it was John Moore but Keith Allen apparently confirmed The Cruiser's belief that it was him. In my head, I can still see John Moore doing it but that discussion has been had on here a number of times.

I was correct about Keith Allen receiving a Division 4 Champions medal retrospectively, but forgot the details. It was actually 50 years afterwards.
The Stockport team was having a 50th anniversary function in 2017, turned out KA was the only one who hadn’t received a medal. He’d played 23 games before coming to Luton when Derek Kevan went the their way, so County fans set up a crowd funder and raised the money to buy him one.
