This beano to Perth next year

For this friendly tournament between Luton, Coventry, Perth and Wellington.

Potentially being played at the WACA of all places! And I thought teams hated our bouncier surface!

is this actually happening because Coventry's official twitter account basically said it was rubbish last week?

When I visited the WACA in 1999, they were dismantling the temporary stands that had been put in place for a Perth Glory cup game.

What time of year was that? Only I was a regular at Perth Glory that season (99/00) and all the games were at the East Perth Oval. The only game I remember them playing away from there was the 'Grand Final' which was at Subiaco Oval - which from memory they conspired to loose after leading 3-0.

May 1999. I believe that it was a semi-final or final of some competition. We flew out on 9 May 1999, the day after the Millwall game (and the Jimmy Glass incident which I remember hearing about whilst sitting on the coach waiting for the police to let us leave) so it was probably about a couple of weeks after that.

Ahh, right. I didn't arrive until later that year.

A few names in there I'd forgotten about. Harnwell, Halpin and Boutsianis were big stars in that Glory team.

From memory the 'A League' was reformed and rebranded for the start of the following season and teams basically given names local to where they were from. I certainly don't recall the name 'Marconi-Fairfield' other than the fact that my old Dad did an awful lot of specialist work for Marconi and that was in the UK!

I've never followed the Aussie football that closely (though I do keep a loose eye) - I've absolutely zero interest in 'Aussie Rules'. Quite how anyone can get hooked on that is beyond me - its absolute garbage.

As I have posted before, went to Perth Glory v Sydney in 2011 - Chris Coyne v Jamie Coyne.

(The late) Liam Miller played for Perth in that game.

I saw Lloyd Owuso turn out for Adelaide United about 10yrs ago - not long afterwards he turned up at Luton..

So, are you gonna make the trip to WA if the tour goes ahead? A good excuse to visit family I reckon .

Thats if the quarantine restrictions have been lifted of course..

Would love to but the problem would be Mrs Outsider's health. She would love to visit her sister but I am not sure that she could manage the flight. I wouldn't be able to go if she couldn't go as she wouldn't be able to cope on her own.

Its an iconic stadium - its a shame they're now moving the cricket to the Burswood Stadium.

They've actually got very good grounds in Australia - and a lot of ideas that the likes of 2020 should tap into when it comes to their own ground, such as reducing the need to queue for food inside the stadium.

I love the Gabba - brilliant venue, like a cauldron. I was very tempted to head to the pool deck a few years ago.

Close to the city centre too... you can get a free bus from the ground which takes about 10-15 mins, as well as the bars surrounding it.
