    Players wages

    Posted by J Block on 21/5/2020, 10:53:36

I assume most players are on a minimum of 5k a week, i think it would have been a decent gesture, if the players said we'll put £200/300 a week each back into the coffers to help with the everyday runnings of the club.

A vast amount of players do charitable work and give every week without press coverage or wanting acclaim for their deeds.

On your figures most fans should be able to pay £20/30 a week or even a fortnight to the club to help out with costs, so we have a club to support at the end of this mess. (again)

        What do they do??

Yep I won't pay to maintain the lifestyle of players considerably wealthier than me. PFA needs to reconsider it's guidance.

They are being advised by the PFA not to do anything.
I've heard from various places that it's a short career and therefore they are right to not give up any wages.
My opinion is whilst that may well be true there are thousands upon thousands who have lost their jobs and more importantly their lives. Earning thousands a week means at some stage you must become wealthy and wont starve. If not then your a fucin idiot fir wasting that money.
At this time I couldn't give a monkeys about players because they are collectively going to bankrupt the club and with it it's very existence.
If they as you said got together and had the balls to negotiate with the club perhaps they will have a job at the end of this and our club will survive.
It really does sum up to a certain extent the "what's in it or me" philosophy and fuc everyone else that pervades through out our society rather than looking at the bigger picture.
Sad times we are living through.

Why would any footballer want to take less money out of loyalty to the club,in two years time they will be shipped out there is no loyalty in football Thatís a fact of life, just because players on £5000 a week it doesnít mean heís taking that home he does have high taxes to pay,so if players asked to put their hands in their pockets to help out doesnít look likely.

Dan didn't mention loyalty at all

It's got fukk all to do with loyalty. It's making those who have longer contracts see that having 2 years worth of pay on reduced wages (probably still with performance bonuses) is better than having only months of pay at their current rates (and they won't get their current rates of pay anywhere else even if they are lucky enough to find another club, which some of them might not)

This "short career" bollocks is just that. They're not one of the 100,000s if not millions on zero hours contracts. The average length of a job in the UK is 4.5 years.

I wrestled with my own conscious whether to renew. My work has dried up and I dont get anything to replace it. However I, along with many of you, have fought damn hard over the years to make sure we have a club worthy of the name. I decided I would renew and have done due to the very fact that if we all dont renew we will be out of business very quickly.
I dont want the money back from the games still to be played if its cancelled and I dont want my ST money back if we dont play until whenever.
Of course not everyone has that opinion and that I respect, I just think life is a gamble sometime and this is a gamble I'm prepared to take if it means the club survives at the end of this mess.

Yep. I get they are doing as the PFA tell them but thats a cop out for me. The PFA also tells them to show respect to referee's, do they listen to that?

How good would it be if one of our players broke rank, spoke out and contributed to saving the club instead of hiding behind Gordon Taylor?

This whole sorry situation has left a very sour taste in the mouth when it comes to our players.

                                    Sad isnt it.
There is an opportunity presenting itself for all supporters from all the clubs in this country to start demanding a change. That window of opportunity will not be here forever though.
There is a survey going to be released in the next few days to gauge opinions of our supporters on various issues around the crisis. Once the survey is returned then the supporters groups will have a better idea of how to take up this opportunity now presenting itself. It will then be sent out to other clubs to build a bigger picture of what supporters are thinking on the ground.
We can not carry on like this anymore. Things have to change. There is too much greed and the main element of the game, the supporters, are and have been ignored for far too long.
I hope that we have a club left at the end of all this.

We all overlook it because at the end of the day our attachment to the club is based on emotion and we're caught between wanting to give as much support to the club as we can but knowing at the back of our minds that means we're also fuelling the bs that we all hate so much.
