    Relegation play offs

Posted by Herve Baquet on 20/5/2020, 20:46:13

Would seem a fair way to do it if the season doesn't restart properly.

    Two legged ties

    Bottom plays 6th bottom
    2nd bottom plays 5th bottom
    3rd bottom plays 4th bottom

Winner of each tie stays up, loser goes down.

Could do a similar thing for the promotion play offs.

      Absolute nonsense.

Can't see a play-off scenario in any division tbh.

You either abandon the season or play it out. The EFL are insisting on relegations, with the unresolved Macc situation holding everyone up.

It's PPG or void, I reckon.

League Two have said they want promotion play offs

They also asked for no relegation, with Barrow coming up to make up the numbers following Bury's demise. Very well-rounded solution and credit to Bradford, Port Vale and others for being realistic about their promotion chances.

EFL still mulling it over, though. Will impact League One solution too, surely.

The no relegation to National league debate is because of the uncertainty of the National league's future. The league dont want to relegate a member club if that structure of the National League is going to change into something different. That's according to the Burton chairman anyway.

EFL probably waiting for decision from L1 clubs before deciding on L2 but I understand that no relegation to the National League is unlikely to be supported by Championship clubs as they don't want PL to say no relegation.

Also, Macclesfield situation needs to be resolved - EFL would probably be happy to relegate them and save Stevenage.

            Contradictory?

Beg pardon. It's PPG and void, I reckon.

For safety of the players, just take the aggregate results of the games between the teams when they played each other during the season rather than actually playing them again

Seriously though, although it wouldn't suit us, I would say that a fairer version would be single games with the higher placed team at home.

Home "advantage" is probably a bit null and void now

Managers say that players know their own pitch, can judge things by various things around the ground and the size of the pitch can also be a factor.

I read somewhere that there was only one home win in Germany at the weekend which possibly backs up your comment although I have no idea of the relative strength of the teams in each match.
