He is a loathsome creature. I really hope, after all this, the British people remember who stepped up and who did everything they could to protect self interest.

Fair play to him, he's entitled to protect his business. Many others would do the same, some on here included.

How do you know what terms they are on? Big deal about normal business practice being made out of this by usual leftie suspects.

Oh #### off with that tiresome leftie nonsense, you idiot. Or at least have the guts to use your regular posting name.

Are you suggesting that he has not received the supplies his suppliers now want paying for? The very wording of the statement indicates that he is reneging on his contracts.

Pub trade's tough, always has been. What are you doing for the Wetherspoons workers then? Diddly squat, probably. Talk a good game, don't ya!

Here's the thing, dumbo. I don't own Wetherspoons. Tim Martin does. Sorry if you were under a different impression.

By sending his suppliers to the wall after he has made millions?

He probably won't have any suppliers left when he reopens now.

Wow, is that seriously why you think he is becoming so unpopular? You sad, sad person! Why is it that a number of posters (exiteers) want to twist everything back to Brexit, when it isn't?

Martin and Wetherspoons have been in the news several times because he initially refused to accept the government advice about closing their pubs and since then he seems to have treated his staff and suppliers shabbily.

Bugger all to do with Brexit except in the minds of the obsessed.

What an absolute arse - and a fool, too, blinded by greed.

Imagine what massive good he could have done for his brand - and the people who deliver his vast income - by switching his pubs over to producing and delivering meals for the needy at a lowish cost or even free. He could have kept a fair proportion of his staff on, maintained the cash flow of his suppliers and become a national hero - all for a relatively modest short term outlay which would have yielded priceless good will and future income from a grateful public.

But oh no, he - like so many vastly weathly people - has taken the diametrically opposite direction.

The love of money really does blind people, doesn't it?

Even in commercial terms, an investment in decency and the public good is a damned excellent one at the moment.

Exactly! As C illustrates below with his examples, there is a serious opportunity for companies to do the right thing. It's staggering how successful business people become so blinded by money that they fail to see how beneficial it would be for their company long term to help and stand by staff etc

It's a shame today's mega wealthy don't copy the philanthropists of the victorian age, like the Cadbury family.

Fair play to Phil Neville and Bill Gates who warned of the current scenario, shame on Martin, Bezos and Branson.
