Yet football is still pretending it's in a vacuum to the real world and telling everyone they will be able to finish the season.

Yep, because of the money it generates and the ridiculous amount of media coverage football(mainly the PL) gets, there are an alarming amount of people within the game that thinks the world revolves around football.

Football and its clubs' overspending means people in the sport are shitting themselves more than other sports

As Gary Sweet says in his latest interview (Hatters News) some clubs can't afford to not have the income from the last 4 or 5 home games of the season. Because the finances are that tight, football is desperately trying to convince itself that the season can still finish

I get the impression we're even going to struggle financially if this season doesn't get finished. Which it probably won't

I presume football clubs qualify for all the Govt grants and loans and other financial support?

Hmmm, on the one hand football clubs are also businesses deserving support but should public money really be spent giving financial support to the likes of Chelsea et al?

And what would some of their players make of their 2.9k to live on I wonder?

Otherwise I certainly think clubs like ours deserve it as much as most businesses!

Not so much thinking about wages help (although that might help some C'ship clubs and certainly lower league clubs) but more the grants and guaranteed loans that the govt is stumping up

Surely worth an ask for a football club to ask for a loan from the Govt to tide them over. They're businesses* too

Not sure what the qualifying criteria is. I guess if you're making massive losses then the Govt won't support

*strange businesses but businesses all the same
