Stripped all Wetherspoons staff of bonuses that they have already achieved and told them all to apply for a job at Tesco.

I don't sgree with this sort of action, and Branson was equally guilty. But I note that it's the remainer press that have jumped on it. What are the other pub and restaurant chains doing?

There you go again. FFS what is wrong with you? It has #### all to do with Brexit and the original poster didnt mention it. You really have a problem. Let it go, like everyone else is doing. You are obsessed.

Apologies, I was referring to Martin.

I do think the stuff about Branson was a bit weird to be honest. He doesn't really have anything to do with the day to day running of Virgin Atlantic. He never really did, they're just using his brand.

Still does not address the fact that the press misreport the real picture to paint one that suits them.
Branson and Martin have both been misreported - so as I was agreeing it's not a Brexit issue.

From what I can gather, the issue is that the govt. money could take weeks to come through.

Costa seem to have advanced their workers payments against the govt. money so they can pay this month's rent.

Presumably when the govt. payments come through they will hold on to the wages they have already paid out.

But they're making sure their staff can pay rent and bills for March/April.

                        Reality is:-

He said: "I know that all our trade now has gone to supermarkets. Not only our trade, but the trade from cafés, leisure centres, restaurants etc.
"So we have had lots of calls from supermarkets, Tesco alone want 20,000 people to join them. That's half the amount of people who work in our pubs."
Martin then goes on to tell people that they could wait on the government payments to begin or go and work at one of the supermarkets that are hiring.
He said: "If I'm honest, I could say you can get the furlough payments and stay at home.
"If you're offered a job at a supermarket, many of you will want to do that. If you think it's a good idea, do it.
"I can completely understand it. If you've worked for us before I promise we will give you first preference if you want to come back.
"I completely understand if you don't want to wait around for us to reopen but deeply appreciate your work."

It’s sensible advice. If you want to do some “essential” work rather than sit at home then it’s out there. The nhs needs porters, cleaners and drivers more than ever. A friend of mine offered to work at tescos at 7pm on Friday and was asked to come in and start at 8am the next morning.

Costa and others have promised staff wages up front though - not at same vague future date when govt. payments begin.

Doesn't really help his staff with their rent this month.
