    Statutory self employment bill today

    Posted by HH on 24/3/2020, 8:25:08

    Bill being discussed / going through the house today saying self employed people will be able to claim monthly payments of the lower of either;

    a) 80% of their average net earnings over last three years or

    b) £2917

    Seems good news!

      Presumably that's only if they have no work?

      Those struggling on on little work wouldn't get anything I guess?

      Unless they decided basically to stop working.

        It is an amendment to the bill so needs support from the Government (not their initial policy)

          Oh. Misread a tweet about it.

          Would be a brave (stupid?) government to vote against it in the current climate.

        A bit of thread hijacking here - all these bills are researched and drafted by civil servants. As with other Public sector workers, they have been hammered on wages for ten years with numbers drastically reduced. They too, are helping to keep the country running alongside the more fanfared groups.

          +1

          Hopefully once this is all over the briefing we saw over the last 6 months against civil servants, ie Patel etc will be a thing of the past.
