    Paul Futcher

    Mentioned further down.

Not often mentioned as one of the most brilliant players ever to have played for us.
But he was. He was fantastic.

    RIP.

His goal against Hereford from outside the box besides the great defending sticks in my mind - far better than Roeder

I remember him backheeling the ball to the keeper in the 6 yard box, no dea what match or anything but it has stuck with me

If he hadn;t have that terrible car accidnt would have played many times for England. Danny Murphy is his nephew.

True, his brother, Ron, was underrated though, I used to think he a great player.

Ron came as a makeweight to help his brother feel at home down south, but turned out to be so much more than that.
Paul however, was absolute class and was for me one the best players I have seen in a Luton shirt in over fifty years of watching the Town.

For me the best Luton player I've seen, the impact he made that season was astonishing, straight into the team at 18, think he'd only played about 15 games for Chester before we bought him, considering the level he played at after that car crash simply underlines what a player he was

Brilliant players, both of them. The one goal Ron scored for us that sticks in my memory was at Portman Road, can't remember the year but we were rock bottom of the league and they were top.

Ipswich ran rings round us all game but just couldn't put the ball in the net and in the last minute we attacked probably for the first time in the match down our left wing, the ball was centred and there was Ron looping a header over the keeper to win the game 1-0.

The most one sided match I've ever seen when the better side lost.

Boxing Day 1974. It was his first start for us.

Cheers O!! I knew someone would come up with the date. If my memory serves me correctly it was a horrible day weather wise, freezing cold and with mist hanging around. But then it was winter. The result was warming though.

Wasn't that the era when Ipswich had an all conquering side with the two Dutchman plus Ted Phillips and the collosus that was Kevin Beattie?

Think we still were relegated though.

Too early for Thijssen & Muhren, think they arrived late 70's

Yes but only relegated due to cheating sods at White Hsrt Lane, throwing the last game against Leeds.
