He's started 10 games in the league, I can't see 11 triggering anything. Last league appearances were in December where he did well and we were drawing against Preston and Swansea until he was subbed off.

One can only assume he isn't doing enough high-intensity runs. And so we get to watch Tunnicliffe at high-intensity again, for the 32nd time this season, perhaps squandering chances and gifting the opposition goals. Like he and Sluga contrived to do at Hillsborough.

      Bless.

So you can delve into ancient history and extract a goal Tunnicliffe may have had a hand in conceding, or missing, yet ignore Pelly's mistake on saturday or all the sitters Harry has missed recently. Jones tinted glasses I think

If you think I'm going to criticise Pelly and Cornick, two of our better performing players this season who've made the step up to this level, because they've missed the odd chance, you're daft.

I'm knocking Tunnicliffe based on 30 something games of nothingness. A player who had experience of the level. I referred to the Wednesday game as they are the opponents tonight. Think about it.

And that's the problem with over analysing stats.

At the end of the day, whilst it's useful to see how much high intensity running each player does, it can't calculate vision, making space off the ball, ball control, leadership and organisational skills, etc.

              Exactly.

I'm a big fan of Butterfield. Do I think he's the answer to all of our problems? No. Do I reckon we stay up if he plays? I doubt it.

But is he better than Ryan Tunnicliffe? Yes. I don't care if Ryan runs around more intensely. I want a midfielder in there with a proven ability to retain possession, someone technically gifted and one who offers both the ability to tackle and intercept whilst having a proven record for scoring goals from distance.

We've got Rea holding midfield now, and I think he'd gradually getting there. Pelly is the engine in there, Brown can create and join up with the frontline. So what do we need Tunnicliffe for? My eyes over 31 games watching him, plus every statistic out there, tells me he's ineffective at most things needed from a midfielder. It's why he's had the career he's had.

Butterfield has had a much better career and a much better - albeit briefer - Town career to date.

It's not a witch hunt. I just can't fathom this decision from Jones.

14 league appearances including as a sub, isn't it? So a 15th appearance would be more likely to trigger such a clause than an 11th one. I posted something similar a few days ago, as it would explain why he isn't even on the bench, as it would be a waste of a place if we had no intention of bringing him on. But it's all just speculation.

I can't imagine it's appearance based. Aren't those sub appearances for a couple of minutes? Why would you put someone on for say, 3 minutes at the end of a game you're getting smashed in (Stoke) if you knew it would push that player closer to a contract extension, knowing you don't want him to stay?
Because let's be honest, he can't want him here can he? He's not even making the bench.

My assumption is that player and manager had a falling out. It cannot be based on ability or player contribution because Town have won 3 of the 10 games he's started. Two of those away (our only away wins), where he was arguably man of the match in both, which I attended up north. It's an opinions game, but I believe we were a better side when he played and he wasn't dropped due to a run of poor showings. He was just dropped. Mysteriously.

Jones doesn't rate him/they fell out.

                I don't believe it's appearance based.
