    Brentford

Interesting how they have managed to bridge the budget gap given their obvious restraints.
They got rid of their youth team and started a B team of 17-20 year olds. Picking up promising players discarded from the premiership clubs.
Developed them and then sold them on. Usually to another premiership club.
Seems to have worked well and has generated a decent amount towards their 17 million playing budget each season.
This offers hope to smaller clubs as the premiership teams continue to sign up masses of youth players, before letting most go, just in the hope of finding one diamond.

Rich investor. A bit like Bournemouth.

Both are leave 1 clubs at best without it

Without our investors then we'd probably be in L1 too.

That's true. Don't our accounts show £30m debt?

Swiss Ramble on Twitter had an interesting thread on Brentford. Good player trading but essentially backed up by a very rich owner.

Not sure how it all fits together with FFP though, as they must be keeping within this.

So 3rd in The Championship can't be completely down to Benham throwing money at it.

Well it shows that they owe > £70m. Wages at 200% of income. Losing c£14m p.a. before player sales.

You need very big pockets to play in this league, even if you are one of the more sensible clubs.

yep, but you don't need massive pockets to stick your body in the way of crosses being put in to the box resulting in goals being conceded week after week.

Actually we got a fair few crosses in yesterday too. Difference is they were all shit crosses (Lua Lua in particular) and we donít have anyone capable of getting on the end of them.

They spend 135% of turnover on wages! Crikey.

Janssen is on more at Brentford than he was at Leeds.

                  20k a week, apparently.

You need to have a certain level of budget in the first place in order to pay for a team of ex-Prem youngsters instead of your own academy graduates. I would suggest that we don't have that budget at the current time. Even when we have PC/NP and may have the budget, I think many of us would prefer to keep the youth team that was fought so hard to maintain!

Well we managed to afford Cam and Pelly from Premier sides when we were in the Conference.

A whole team of those probably wouldn't be doing any worse.

Possibly. Brown reportedly on £25k a week though a stage more developed, the world has gone mad.

yep, it has. 25k a week for a player who is decent but not exactly world-class and who will probably never play regularly for Chelsea.

About 15m each season they have been in Championship.

The rest to get then to Championship and on the new stadium.

Still made big transfer profits though.

So have we on JJ and JS though, to be fair. Plus I'm sure there are examples of poor Brentford signings too.

And the Championsjop wasn't as tough in their first season as it is now.

They're probably about where we would be without the minus 30 points.
