    Parking ticket query

Posted by Cumbrian Hatter on 8/11/2019, 17:34:48

After 59 years driving I received my first parking ticket. No excuses. But when I got home I noticed the warden had written the number down wrongly.
Have I any chance of getting off or do I pay the 35 within the fortnight instead of waiting and then getting the 70 fine?

If it's a council issued one and they write to you, then you need to pay it. If it's a private one, worth visiting the parking cowboys website, although I've never used it. I've always ignored. As other poster has mentioned, just be prepared to receive loads of threats of action. Nothing's come of any of the threats I've received, as of yet.

As they have got the wrong number they will get the wrong name and address from DVLA so he shouldn't receive anything anyway.

You have some pretty good information in here but I'll add my experience too.

I've received more parking tickets than any other person I know and I've been parked perfectly legally in a residents parking bay every single time. I had about 95% of these tickets overturned but they pointblank refused to overturn the last PCN I received despite the fact that their photo evidence backed up my arguement. But anyway..

I received a PCN in Richmond a couple of years ago and this time I was caught bang to rights. I was in a rush and parked up in a Pay & Display bay, paid for the parking and rushed off. What I didn't realise (as it was dark and I was running late) was that the rear wheels of my car were just over-hanging the bay behind me which is a 24hour residents parking bay.

I thought the PCN was abit anal but hey, I was illegally parked. I rang the Parking Shop to pay the PCN but whilst on the phone I noticed that they had mis-typed my registration mark. My registration begins with an 'O' and they listed it as '0' (zero) so I mentioned this to the young lady on the phone and she immediately pulled up a photograph that had been taken by the traffic warden.

Her reply was "Well that's not your car sir."
Me: "Excuse me? It must be my car!"
Her: "No, what I mean is that the warden has issued a ticket to a car with the registration '0XX XXXX' and yours is 'OXX XXXX'. This means that as far as we're concerned, you didn't park your car illegally and you don't have to pay a fine. Have a great Christmas!"

I think it depends on the council in question as my local council are a bunch of clowns and you have to fight tooth and nail to get anything overturned. Richmond council were fantastic to deal with by comparison.

Is it giving you the opportunity to pay online?
Basically if it does, and there's a photo then they've got you..
If not... well worth taking a chance!

Thanks for that. Just been reading a bit and it seems that if they have written the wrong number then I have a chance, but if they have taken a photograph then perhaps not so sure. I was parked outside my cousin's shop so will ask her if she knows if they take photographic evidence.

I got a ticket for parking in ..... Rd NW3 but the warden issued the ticket as NW1. I appealed it in a magistrates court and the beak took one look at the A to Z I produced and ruled that the ticket was incorrect, and dismissed the case. The ticket must be 100% correct.

                This was a while back.
