    New Stadiums

Posted by stan on 8/11/2019, 12:12:17

Been quite a few new Stadiums built in the last 10-15 years.

Anyone aware if any of these clubs have had to go through a JR prior to development?

Or is it just a Luton thing?

Think you must be getting old.

There were loads of new stadiums built during the 1990s:
      Huddersfield
      Bolton
      Derby
      M'boro
      Millwall
      Reading
      Stoke
      S####horpe
      Sunland
      Walsall
      Wycombe

      That's 20+ years ago!

Then in the early 2000s (to 2005):
      Arsenal
      Bournemouth
      Leicester
      Man City
      Soton
      Hull
      Swansea
      Coventry
      Oxford

Can't think of too many built in the last 10-15 years:
      BHA
      Cardiff
      Spurs
      WHU
      Rotherham
      Doncaster
      Shrewsbury
      Col U

And most of them were 10-15 years ago rather than the last few years.

York Council have built one but seem to be reluctant for York City to play there...

          Bournemouth is debatable.

            True.

It's only a rough list anyway. I've probably missed some out.

              Possibly deliberately but franchise.

yes, I did deliberately leave time out. I also missed out Chesterfield but that was by accident and I've only just thought of them!

The JR is not about the stadium. It is about the separate & remote retail development at NP. Completely different thing. No-one is going to launch a JR against a football stadium in isolation. I would guess that our situation is unique in that we 'need' the retail to finance the stadium and the retail is remote from the stadium. MK Dongs may have had retail sector opposition when they built their stadium but their stadium & retail were part of the same site.

Brighton had a public enquiry and got delayed for years. Something to do with rare toads.

No need to worry about toads/otters/newts/badgers with PC. No living creature can survive the level of contamination on that site unless it has full mask and anti-radiation suit.

But a line worth investigating on any prospective C&R developments.

we haven't though have we? An application for a JR is not the same at all as a JR.
