When Saturday Comes is in trouble

When Saturday Comes is in a bit of bother. Itís Britainís best football mag and itís let me write about Luton since 1991, including putting our side forward when Jacqui Oatley went mad.
In short - itís not closing, but it might if sales donít go up. If you want a mag that doesnít suck up to the Premier League and cares about fans, please buy it/ subscribe or check their Patreon crowdfunder. Thanks! https://www.patreon.com/whensaturdaycomes/posts

Incomparably the best UK football magazine, with an excellent lineup of writers (you included, if you can stand a little personal praise),
a pleasing and unpretentious design approach and plenty of witty illustrations/cartoons.
Such a contrast with the Premiersh!te-licking glossy mags which hardly have a worthwhile article in them.
Have they perhaps overstretched themselves with their new kiddy mag?
It would be a tragedy if WSC folded, as it's a really informative and entertaining read, well worth my annual subscription (and perhaps
        a donation as well).

Thanks, GCH, thatís very kind! Having written for them for literally my whole adult life, itíd be personally rubbish. And youíre dead right, itís such a refreshing antidote to the Prem-only coverage everywhere else.

          They need a scoop- http://thestrawplaiters.com/watford-f-c-formed-in-1881-1891-or-1898/

"1881 is bollocks" would be a good title.

I've read your report a number of times in the past RADSB and whilst you make a persuasive argument I have always had the following nagging question if you don't mind me asking.

That is - what concrete evidence is there to shed more light on the situation?

What would clinch it would be to find out at least one of the two following facts.

Financial first: what was the Companies' House nature of the two organisations prior to 1898 compared to that of the sole Watford FC organisation afterwards. If the latter is a different legal entity to the two former then the evidence is convincingly for an amalgamation.

Then a football registration question. What was the (I assume Herts) FA registration number of West Herts, Watford St Mary's and then Watford FC? If the West Herts registration did not pass to Watford FC then again the case is convincingly for an amalgamation.

I think either would do it.

And why does it matter you may ask. I understand Watford are soon to unveil a new club badge and all potential options have 1881 on it. What a spoiler those facts above could be on the day of announcement ;-)

Firstly, Companies House deals with Limited companies. West Herts and Watford St. Mary's were not limited companies.

Secondly, both clubs were registered with the F.A. and both entered the F.A. Cup every season. The full F.A. Committee agreed to the amalgamation of the two clubs as reported on the 28th May 1898. The F.A. decision was reported as follows (quoted in my article) - ďpermission was given to Watford St. Maryís and West Herts to take the name of Watford Football Club, the two clubs having amalgamated.Ē

The F.A. would clearly have been asked to make this decision and would have wanted the requisite evidence and approval from both clubs officials before putting the matter before the full council.
