    Relegation

Posted by Garythehatter on 4/11/2019, 8:26:42

So itís November and our manager has admitted that we are in a relegation battle. (For reference before someone asks if Iíve spoken to him https://www.dunstabletoday.co.uk/sport/football/hatters/luton-chief-concedes-hatters-are-in-a-relegation-battle-this-season-1-9128412)

Granted we probably all thought it was going to be a tough season and 4th from bottom will be a great achievement. I feel with our current squad we should be able to achieve that. The thing is GJ needs to work on the silly mistakes that we keep making. We are giving goals away and it shows it doesnít matter who is in goal we still make them. The teams below us are picking up points and we are standing still at present. I do post negative comments but only because I believe we are capable of so much more. There are players that last season wouldnít have made the mistakes they are making now and Iím not sure what it is maybe itís too big a stage for them. Hopefully we can go on a run of being unbeaten just so we can create a gap between the bottom three. January will be interesting I hope that we can sign another forward and a defender who is used to this level of football. At the end of the season I really hope that we have achieved what GJ set out to achieve and we are still a championship club where we belong.

I dont think we should be so surprised that we are in a relegation battle, anyone that thought we might not be this season would have been a little too optimistic. Last year we struggled to get points against the better L1 teams; Charlton, Barsnley, Blunderland, so it was always going to be a big ask to finish higher than 16th/17th this season playing against good established Championship teams/ex Premier teams.

I am enjoying it so far, yeah I would like to have more points on the board, but the team are showing promise and with a few tweaks here and there I am confident we can stay up this season. I hope so anyway.

One thing I can't agree with is not playing moncur and Lua for home games at least. They are both attacking player's who can make things happen. We need to win more of our home matches because we won't win many away.

C'mon, we all know ONLY Izzy Brown can keep us up...

I can't really fathom the continued exclusion of Moncur and others. I know it's easy to say the player not playing is the answer but it's quite clear the other options aren't really working.

Not sure how Jones will fare against 2006 Championship winners Reading and the English Champions of 1992, Leeds. Two more defeats and it's going to be feeling a bit grim.

I also liked what I saw from Moncur last season, but I dont think his inclusion would really change matters so much. Maybe if Brown is out for the next match he would be worth a go. But then there is also Shinnie, who would you go with? Not been impressed with Lee for a while now.

Yeah, definitely would go with Shinnie over Moncur but find it hard to see that we've not really seen Moncur even from the bench.

He made a decent impact after signing last year and scored some vital goals. Surely Jones watched that?

I think Lee needs to move on, I don't think he's quite good enough at this level.

You seriously can't blame Jones for that atrocious effort at defending by Bree and Bradley.

Not his fault for the mistakes . But he signed Bree and we need better than Bree if we are to stay up.

Maybe we stay up, and maybe we might go down, thatís football, none of expected last year, so Iím trying to keep positive.

A few weeks ago we put in a complete performance against Bristol, Saturday 2nd half was flat, and the worst Iíve seen us play at home this season, there is a team in there somewhere, that can compete on a consistent basis...

However that all pales into nothing, to what is potentially going to happen in the next few days, the biggest battle that the club has ever faced.
Saturday will be a distant memory come the end of this week..

Home and away we do have a decent share of the ball and string together some good stuff,,nobody I have seen yet other than West Brom are streets ahead of us two things I notice though, Collins an international striker and goal scorer playing wide, nobody in middle, second thing our defence back off players eg Ameobi on Sat we stood watching waiting for him to shoot he did end of, kick ball out the ground slow it down, long ball forward get Cornik involved more not try to be Man City in midfield,,as for Bree well fks sake

Signing another forward in January will be pointless unless we get the ball to him.
