    The Keeper again

Posted by Wytonboathatter on 7/10/2019, 13:16:40

This is a professional football club, with the stated aim of consolidating in the championship and then pushing on.

This is not a happy clappy Sunday League kids team where the feelings and confidence of individual players are considered over the team or club.

The lad is clearly not currently up to standard and is costing the club points which we will need when the final league positions are concluded.

In addition supporters are paying increasing amounts to watch a higher standard of professional football hopefully with a modicum of success.

It is clear Mr Sluga needs to be rested. If his replacements are unable to play it out from the back, which I suspect is in the managers mind, then change the initial in play delivery. At least that way we won't all have a collective heart attack every time they mess around in our own goal area.

One thing I havent seen discussed is how Derby also tried this playing it out from the back thing that seems so popular at the moment.

Several times Collins was within inches of taking it off their keeper. On another day, with a bit of luck, Collins would have got the ball.

It's a horrible way to play in my opinion. Unless you are City or Liverpool, you are putting yourselves under unnecessary pressure.

Collins was inches from scoring a goal but he put that over the bar so was guilty as a keeper but not much talk about that

Have you not noticed how the majority of times we kick the ball upfield it comes straight back at us?

            Yes I have.

Jones should probably work on that.

They might have lost yesterday but they are still one of the best teams on the planet.

First off I think its really worth remembering that if we continue to stay at this level we will wonít see the club sign a finished article player for a while.

That aside, the hysteria over Slugaís perceived lack of performances is up there with some of the most embarrassing Iíve heard/read over the years, and is completely disproportionate compared to the attitudes towards others. His mistakes are just amplified because thatís a goalkeepers life.

For me the key is a mixture of if his heads gone - internationally travelled keeper with a foundation in Croatian football leads me to think probably not at this stage. Or if the other players confidence in him is gone - a couple aborted passes at Derby doesnít count/no-one knows the dressing room atmosphere.

Shea is a sound number 2, I just donít think weíre at the stage of chucking a clearly talented (who happens to have also saved a few games from the mistakes of others) and integral to the way the team plays keeper under the bus just yet.

Of course none of that matters because for some, to be bark abuse at one of our own brings them strange joy.

            Football ay.

Funnily enough, whilst people at the match on Saturday were pissed off, the most venomous stuff have been on social media from the usual non-attenders who have a very loud opinion on everything

Yes that's football and sport in general, opinions that's what makes football the game it is, wether you were there or not.

To some degree you are right, but you dont expect to take your seat after a decent journey up and a lovely liquid lunch. Sit down and within minutes see that sort of thing happen!
