    Perspective

Posted by Farhat on 6/10/2019, 17:13:32

Sluga is away on international duty with Croatia. Croatia are ranked number 5 in the FIFA world rankings. He is OBVIOUSLY a very very good goalkeeper.

Why are we so quick to jump down somebody's throat? Pelly has always been rubbish, Collins and Rea weren't good enough for League 1, Howard wasn't good enough in Division 4, Wayne Turner was never good enough. Hatton was well past his prime.

Basic football skills I learnt at school: if you pass back to the keeper DON'T pass towards the goal. If (yes, i know, if) Pearson hadn't made that mistake, and Collins had scored that sitter we might have sent a goalkeeper away to Croatia with a smile on his face, instead he'll probably be dreading returning.

STOP being bastards to your own players.

Any pass backwards by definition is a pass towards your own goal.

Don't know what sport you follow, but in football the width of the goal is not the width of the pitch.

We didn’t spend a record £1.3m on any other player. What’s more his performance is nowhere near that price.

Pearson mistake comment beggars belief. You are told not to pass back because but goalies might not be good at school, he is a professional goalkeeper, it's his mistake and only his as the manager said.

He's made a lot of errors. I have defended him throughout this season, R, and actually argued with people who had written him off far earlier this season

But those two mistakes yesterday were the last straw for me. Worse than schoolboy stuff. I can't defend that. Jones himself said he can't defend him either

No one at the game gave him stick that I heard yesterday aside from individual muttering and head-shaking. Actually the fans have been brilliant with him. Chanting his name at games even when he's made a fukk up. But on a football forum surely it's fair game to talk about how poor he's been?

He might come good. But he needs to get his head together and doing that on the bench, rather than between the sticks, for a few weeks might be easier for him and better for all concerned. I think it will be doing him a favour to give him time to sort his head out and settle in the country, which is what should have happened in the first place - rather than being thrown straight into the heat of battle after an apparently whirlwind process in getting him signed

No one wants him to fail but he is failing. As you say, he's in Croatia's squad so he must be decent. That is why the comical mistakes are all the more frustrating. He should not be making them if he is that standard. So his mentality might be the real problem. And that could prove to be difficult to overcome

Pearson might have made a tiny, tiny mistake in back passing on target of his own goal but there's no way we can point the finger at him for that

Collins has shit loads of credit 'in the bank' and has earned that miss yesterday for all he's done for us. Sluga has none of that credit. If he'd have produced earlier this season and yesterday was his first shocker, I'd have sympathy for him. But he hasn't produced

Yesterday you suggested he was stealing a wage - a bit OTT when we have been in the position where we have had seasoned professionals actually doing that. Peschisolido, Morgan, Spiller etc.

Perspective is needed here, as the lad will already be crippled by the mistakes he’s made.

"Perspective is needed here, as the lad will already be crippled by the mistakes he’s made."

With all these dropped points, we might be 'crippled' by the end of the season. I'm loyal to LTFC. Players have to earn loyalty and respect. But I will never audibly criticise players at the game or boo or anything (as long as they're honest, which Sluga, at least, is. If they're not honest, like those you named, then they deserve stick)

I said what I said yesterday in the heat of the moment but I do actually stand by it. There are more ways to steal a wage than by being an unprofessional, lazy c unt like those you rightly listed

For me, you can also be stealing a wage by being poor when you're actually probably pretty good. Although that is not as bad a thing as being those players you listed

Fair enough, I thought it was OTT and still do.

The lad made an awful error, will get dropped, and will either bounce back or not.

He won’t, however, cripple the club by actually stealing a wage like those ####ers I mentioned did.

From what I can gather, most of the stick has been dished out on social media by people who rarely, if ever, go to matches.

Step forward, amongst others, Paul Winston and Derek Borino.

In all seriousness, Sluga has dealt with those type of passes all season and Pearson and co have an expectation that he would continue to do so, given a big part of signing him was to give us an 11th outfield player there’s no excuse for that balls up, but shit happens.

He’s clearly playing on edge and I think he needs to come out of the firing line for everyone’s benefit, personally I don’t think Shea is championship standard but we’ll have to go with him for a few games.
