The reason the opposition don't want a general election at this time is because Johnson would take the opportunity to leave the EU with no deal in place, which is the least desirable way of going about it.
No need to thank me for explaining the obvious to you.

So Corbyn only wants to be PM if everything is cool and hunky dorey before he takes over?

              My statement is correct though.

He's an embarrassment. To himself, his party, to politics and let's be honest, the human race.

Anybody that would have him as PM should seek medical help.

                No.
The reason he has said he doesn't want a general election at the moment is to stop that clown Johnson (who is the real embarrassment in Parliament) using the opportunity to leave the EUwithout any sort of a deal, which would be a disaster economically, societally, and in terms of this country's reputation.

                    I can't till it happens.
But, at the moment we trade with other EU countries tariff-free. WTO rules (which we would have to abide by if there were no deals agreed before leaving) state that tariffs must be applied. Meaning that imports would cost more.

                    QED.

Which part of my post is not true?
                        WTO rules are as stated.
Countries without trade deals have to follow them.

I really don't understand that argument NaG. No matter when the election is and Jeremy wins then you get what you want and if Boris wins then he'll simply legislate to overturn the extension vote. Cans and kicking springs to mind.

You've never been the sharpest tool in the box so I'll help you out.

Corbyn or Johnson just winning a General Election won't be enough, they will need to have a majority to exact legislation.

It seems unlikely that either will achieve a working majority, Corbyn will have the option of a coalition or a pact with Lib Dems or SNP who are bound to significantly increase their seats. Johnson won't have that option, if he makes it to an election of course.

Can't see that Johnson's position will be much different than it is now with his party fragmenting in all directions. So makes good sense for the combined opposition to secure the no deal act, at this point, before committing to the inevitable and impending election.

You don't see any political capital in making a bloke who promised we would be out of the EU 'do or die' by the end of October go begging to the EU to let us stay in a bit longer?

Farage would go to town on the Tory party.

It's rather obviously a strategy to prevent the government's obvious choice of a no deal Brexit. Are you still under the illusion that the current government ever had any intention of securing a new deal?
