Hatters Heritage - On this day

12 matches have been played by the Hatters on 18th August, with the first being a 2-2 draw at home to Swansea Town in 1951 and the last being a 3-1 defeat away at Peterborough in 2018.

However, pride of place must go to the second game played on this day. That match was at home to Sunderland in Division 1 (now Premier League) and was 70 years ago, in 1956, with the Town winning 6-2 and Gordon Turner scoring 4 of those goals.

4 players have made their debut on this day and, surprisingly, they occurred in only 2 of the 12 matches played and 50 years apart, they are:

Roy Davies & Bert Mitchell (1951)
Adrian Forbes & Ian Hillier (2001)

2 players have been born on this day, with the first being George Moncur in 1993 and the other being Jerry Nash in 1994.

Finally thanks to all those that took part in my poll regarding the age when you attended your first match at Luton. It was interesting, although perhaps not surprising, that the majority became “hooked” as fans at 8 years old and younger and certainly by the time Senior School was reached.
