A total of 151 companies from across the UK are on the latest deliberate defaulters list, owing HMRC a grand total of £40.1m, split between £24.5m in tax, and £15.5m in penalties.
Compared with figures released in March 2026, tax due is down by £16.1m, and penalties are down by £18m.
Highlights from the latest list include a Premier League football club, an online seller of treadmills, three tax firms, a pub landlord, a scrap dealer, and an AI solutions company.
Topping the list this time was Newcastle United Company Limited, the parent company of the Premier League side, Newcastle United Football Club, which owes £3.1m. This was made up of £1.9m in tax, and £1.2m in penalties.
As usual, the list of defaulters included no further information as to the exact reason why the Tyneside team had owed the money. Although, the period of default is shown, which in Newcastle’s case spans from the 6 April 2010 to the 5 April 2016.
From previous High Court hearings, in which Newcastle lost an appeal related to documents seized in a 2017 HMRC raid, we know HMRC had launched an investigation into the club in as early as 2014, which was focused on the club’s paying of players and agents.
