2 players have been born today.
The first was George Hedley in 1882, who made 22 appearances for the Hatters (scoring 2 goals) between Sept 1909 and February 1910.
The other was Rodney Green in 1939, who made 13 appearances for the Town in season 67/68. He was to make his debut on the first game of that season away at Wrexham, scoring the equaliser 90 seconds from the end.
After the discussion with Outsider on the Syd Owen thread yesterday, regarding the York City game in 2015, the Wrexham match also resulted in a draw when we only had 9 players on the pitch (after Johnson, who had come on for an injured Alan Slough after half time, was carried off in the 56th minute and Graham French was sent off in the 66th minute).
The other “claim to fame” that Rodney Green holds will not be found in the record books, but it involves our “friends down the road”. I’ll wait to see who perhaps reads this post and remembers it ?
