My dad died with dementia early in the year. He had several lucid moments when he said he just wanted to die. That is not unusual. I spent last couple of years of my working life in an old people's home which in a short time became more of a dementia unit. Several of them told me they wanted to die.
Obviously, as the dementia became more common, the old people that were ok but just needed help and company, frequently shut themselves away in their rooms.
Cruel lifestyle.
