However, the bigger picture here, that many like to ignore, is that if we actually helped the poorer nations to flourish they would;
be less likely to come to UK shores via illegal gangs/small boats etc.
be less likely to harbour or indeed encourage terrorism towards western nations
be less of a burden on our health and education systems for health/education tourists
become more likely to enjoy healthy trading nations in a way that is mutually beneficial.
It's such short term blinkered nonsense to think cutting aid will be a significant step towards reducing our costs. Maybe it will temporarily and in the short term, but it is self-defeating in the longer term.
