If Gary Sweet is set to have a stake in the new stadium, why on earth would he want to delay it? That argument makes no sense.
And once again, he didn't simply "award himself" a salary. His remuneration package, including any performance-related bonuses, would have been set through the appropriate governance processes.
Whilst I don't agree with the level of pay he received during COVID, he never stopped working and continued to carry out his role throughout that period, so it's reasonable that he was still paid for doing his job.
