Born today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?born-today=yes&sort=date-active
No player has made their debut for the Hatters on this day.
Only 1 match has been played today and that was 15 years ago, in 2011, when we lost our first Conference Final against AFC Wimbledon at what was then called the City of Manchester Stadium, but is now known as the Etihad Stadium.
Following 90 minutes of football and a further 30 minutes of extra time the score remained 0-0 and so the match headed to a penalty shoot out. The Hatters were the first team to take a penalty, but this spot kick was not converted. However, the next 4 kicks were and when the 5th penalty was missed to keep the score at 2-2 we had a second opportunity to take the lead. A bizarre penalty kick was then taken and missed and with all the remaining spot kicks being scored it meant we lost the game 4-3 on penalties.
5 players have been born on this day, with the first being James Stephenson in 1891 and who was to be the Hatters top goal scorer in season 1912/13.
The second player born on this day was Joe Chapman in 1908, who made his only appearance for the Town on 21st November 1931 in a 2-1 win away at Torquay Utd.
The third player was Bob Weaver in 1910, who played 3 games for us in March and April 1933.
The fourth player was born in 1954 and therefore will be more recognisable to many supporters. His name was Steve Litt and he played 20 matches for us between January 1973 and August 1975 and then moved to the USA to play “soccer” for the Minnesota Kicks.
The last player to be born on 21st May was Lee Nogan who being born in 1969 (15 years later than Steve Litt) will be remembered by even more of our supporters. He played 11 games for us between November 2000 and January 2001, scoring 2 goals.
