A tragedy for all those trapped behind the fences who lost their lives and could not escape. Had the police officer in charge had the forethought to instruct his officers to form a barrier to stop any more fans going in the already over full central part of the Leppings Lane terrace (once he had made the decision for the turnstiles to be opened) and then ensured that supporters were directed to the two sparsely populated outer terrace areas the tragic loss of life might well have been avoided.
