55 years ago today we won 1-0 at home to Watford, with Malcolm Macdonald scoring the only goal. It was also the match that Peter Anderson made his debut for the club.

4 players have been born on this day, although 3 of those were in the 19th Century. Those born during the 1800’s were John Eckford (born 150 years ago in 1876), Jack Durrant (born 1878) & John Shankland (born 1893). The other more recent player was George Beavan (born 1990).

100 years ago today one of the clubs leading goal scorers made his debut for the club in a 4-2 home win against Swindon Town. His name was Andy Rennie and he was to go on to play 335 games and score 162 goals between the period of Feb 1926 - December 1934. In addition to Peter Anderson (mentioned above) 2 other players were to make their debut on this day and in the same match in 1960. However, a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday meant that the result was not what either of the two debutees (David Noake & Mike Tracey) might have dreamed of or wanted.
