One of the things about developing a possession based style - I would imagine - is that the easiest part is the keeping possession part. Actually exploiting that possession to be able to use it as a base to hurt teams is something rather more difficult and might naturally take time.
So, maybe what we are just starting to see is the move from that first, rather dull phase, to something that will be a bit more progressive? Just a thought, I don't have any great technical insight into developing and coaching football teams into particular styles!
