Since we left the conference these are the U21 players we have brought in to impact the main squad - mostly on frees:
Sold on for profit:
Taylor, McGeehan, Marriott, Stacey, Kioso, Bree (initially on loan at U21)
Could be sold on for profit in future:
Mengi, Fanne, Makosso, Kodua (if we take obligation to buy) Richards and Walters
Possibly sold on for profit
Bim Pepple
Good servant but released:
Dan Potts, Glen Rea, Elliot Lee (initially on loan at U21)
Kicked around and were released:
Isted, Louis Watson, Elliot Thorpe, Dion Periera, Aaron Jarvis, Jake Gray, Jack Senior, Kynan Isaac, Onyemah
Had our pants pulled down:
Lee Angol who came on a year contract and we loaned him out where he scored 25 in 39 for Boreham Wood - and then he turned down a further contract for Peterborough...
Other notable younger players that we took a punt on and never really played are McAtee (23) Muskwe (22) Mendes Gomes (22) and Lloyd Jones (22) - however, we managed to sell McAtee (reputedly for a million) and Mendes Gomes to Bolton.
Given our rise through the leagues that is a pretty good hit rate. We do seem better at identifying young players than spending cash on more established.
I think we had a bit of an iffy patch a few seasons back in the Championship where our transfer strategy suddenly seemed a lot more speculative which might skew people's thinking. The Admiral feels like he epitomises that time.
However, all said and done our most obvious U21 success was James Justin who was home grown.
I would have loved to include Pelly in the list but we got him in permanently in Jan of the final conference season.
