The shock at the war's ending is understandable - after so long adhering to one minute at a time survival.

The survivors guilt leaps out of the poem - they are surrounded by the graves and memories of their comrades.

The anger no doubt came later. I've read about prisoners finding storerooms full of Red Cross parcels triggering the anger - some of the guards didn't fair well.

Mr J.C. Lomax having been called upon to give his opinion upon the proposed formation of a Town Club, said he was most emphatically in favour of a proposed Luton Town Football Club - 11th April 1885
