I think you’re dead right that Sweet has been poor with communication for a long time, but you’re expecting too much in publicly naming and shaming a bomb squad.
Football is an industry that runs on trust to a surprising extent. It’s a very closed, suspicious world. If Luton start saying “Nakamba, Chong and Mengi are pricks we want rid of” then (a) their fees plummet and (b) so will Luton’s rep. You’re right in saying people in football will know who’s on the naughty step. But there’s a world of difference between insiders knowing and making it public. Explicitly stating “X is a prick” just isn’t done.
Fewer players will come, because their agents will go “Have a bad month and those wankers will hang you out to dry.”
(Yes, I’m aware that players who cost money are already anathema to the club so far this window, but let’s not be TOO cynical here.)
