“Cameron Humphreys
The first point to make here is that I’m not suggesting that Cameron Humphreys should go back on loan. It all hinges on how many midfield signings Town make. If he’s not going to get the game time at Portman Road, he should find somewhere that he will.
Last season was exceptional – a starring role at Wycombe Wanderers, who narrowly missed out on promotion. Playing in an advanced left-sided no.10 role, he notched seven goals and six assists in 42 League One games.
Now it’s time for him to do it in the Championship.
There’s a tough balance to find for a potential loan. On the one hand, it would need to be a club that plays in a certain way, ideally a similar approach to Town’s, which rules out a large chunk of the division. On the other hand, it really can’t be a promotion rival.
That takes me to QPR, who finished 15th last season. Marti Cifuentes has left his role as manager after a strange saga that left to an extended gardening leave, with Julien Stephan replacing him. The Frenchman arrives with real pedigree in Ligue 1 and I think he’ll adapt well in English football.
With the R’s expected to maintain a 4-2-3-1 formation, I could see Humphreys fitting into a deeper role next to Jonathan Varane – which is the position that McKenna is seemingly keen on him to play.
I wouldn’t be letting the 21-year-old leave in a hurry, but it might be the best option for him. One to reassess towards the end of the window.”
