Absolutely agree about that dreadful game, even worse in that subsidised and soulless bowl.
To think that I had flown in so full of optimism from Frankfurt, only to be so disappointed.
In the whole 120+ minutes, I had just two fleeting moments of hope:
- when Walker's header appeared destined for the corner of the goal, so near the end of normal time - only to leave me feeling empty as it rebounded
off the post right in front of me
- then the forlorn hope that we might somehow win the shootout; frankly, I could probably have done better, and it made it even more painful
viewing it from the far end of the ground.
The only good aspect of the whole day was that I came upon an excellent old pub not far from the ground, where I could drown my sorrows in real ale.
And I found myself sitting next to a charming couple of Wimbledon supporters, who were full of sympathy. They even invited me to join them for
a super Chinese meal in the city, before I returned to the airport.
On the whole, though, I preferred my last trip to Wembley!
