Re: Keepers wasting time (thread down the board)
It's been a long time since I trained to be a ref, but unless it changed and I wasn't aware, the rule was not 'six seconds' as people think. The rule was the ref can penalise the keeper if he keeps the ball too long, the guidance for how 'too long' was, was 6 seconds. Refs were not supposed to say 'gotcha' if the keeper released after 7 seconds. It was a case of judging each case on its merits and not penalising if the keeper is genuinely looking around looking to get rid. If there's a new rule which has a strict time limit, then that is a significant change.
