We were not willing to pay for a loan, others clubs are, and as we saw yesterday and at Sheffield United they tore us apart.
But what is mad is that we paid for them 22/23 (three of them).
So we are better off financially but we are signing injury prone players of questionable quality and taking a non contract player weeks after the season started.
The argument on here has always been that we want to sign players we can develop and make money from, very commendable when it works but that approach is one dimensional and short sighted in the real world.
And the reason we are signing players on the cheap is that we are not willing to to compete on wages, this is clearly known and potential targets have naturally chosen to go elsewhere.
Again understandable if we are running the club well and wanting to avoid debt. But if you can’t pay wages for permanent transfers then loans have to be an option to help level the playing field.
To neither sign a loan or tweak the wage structure and expect success last season (January window) or this season (August window) explains our current mess on the pitch.
Will those “nice to haves” at PC really justify not spending more money when we were in the Premier League and sitting outside the relegation places in early January 2024 ☹️
