I thought it worth mentioning that tomorrow, 6/11/24, is the 80th anniversary of a V2 rocket landing on the canteen of Commers Factory in Biscot Road, killing 19, injuring around 150 and damaging 1500 houses.
The V2 struck at 09.50am. 10 minutes before the canteen would have been full of workers on break.
The dead were mainly passersby and people in neighbouring houses on the corner of Biscot and Curzon roads. They included women in destroyed houses and a lady walking her baby in a pram down Biscot Road. Both died.
Also among the dead was Rex Glenister aged 16. I know about Rex because i have my fathers diary for 1944 and on Saturday 11th November the family attended Rex's funeral.
Some of us walk past this spot on the way to each match as we will tomorrow night. Worth sparing a thought.
