- Hiring Managers Based on Where the Club is At, NOT Personality
Mike Newell was the right person at the right time.
John Still was the right person at the right time.
Nathan Jones was the right person at the right time, twice.
Rob Edwards was the right person at the right time.
However, all of the above run their course. They offered something we lacked, but afterwards, fizzled out.
Rob Edwards inherited a Nathan Jones team which apparently were tiring of him. His intensity was apparently graining on them, and Edwards offered them a welcome laid-back change which allowed them to thrive.
He had a run in the Prem which was well-received worldwide and apparently respected by decent teams and setups. However, is obviously not the man for our current grind, where we need to rebuild a VERY talented squad from basics.
We should be hiring and firing based on where the team and club are currently at. Edwards getting a 4 year contract on the back of Jones' success seems VERY short-sighted. Edwards has 0 track record of our current challenge.
A big part of this is honesty and decent communication. Telling everybody that we're aiming for automatic promotion has been madness, and only fuels discontent. No small budget team has ever bounced back up, and our performances and woeful defending really weren't indicative of a team who was going to buck any trends.
Edwards' gung-ho Premier League tactics weren't what got us promoted, so it's weird that he's been given 4 years to fit hexagonal pegs in circular holes.
