Right click on the link and third option down should be 'open in incognito tab' - click on that, usually gets round the Times paywall. Relevant part...
As Cameron Jerome prepares to return to Kenilworth Road for the first time since leaving Luton Town this time last year, the 37-year-old recounts the aggravated burglary that forced him to leave the club. What makes his account even more horrifying is that it was his wife, Natalie, and youngest child who came face to face with the intruders while the striker was driving back to the family home during the break for the World Cup.
Jerome has only spoken about the incident to family and close friends, but the upsetting memory resurfaced last week when Jack Grealish revealed that burglars had raided his Cheshire home while he was playing for Manchester City.
“It’s the long-lasting effects of the trauma and fear of having someone in your home,” Jerome says before Bolton Wanderers’ FA Cup third-round tie on Sunday.

“Over time things get easier. It’s rife in football. Until it happens to you, you can’t fathom it and the knock-on effects on a family.”
He decided that he could no longer commute to Luton and moved to Bolton, the 11th club of a career spanning two decades, featuring 160 goals in 718 appearances and working under managers such as Tony Pulis and Ian Holloway.
He did not go to Luton’s victorious play-off final in May, but will ask the Luton staff on Sunday whether his 21 league appearances were sufficient to earn him a promotion medal.
