We have a “natural”’goalscorer/poacher in Taylor who we decided to send out on loan.

We did that presumably because we thought we were going to get someone like Archer in on loan. Moreover RE said with two weeks to go to the Brighton games that he wanted four more in. We got Menghi and Albert - so presumably again at least one of those who didn’t arrive was a central striker.

We should have held off letting Taylor go until we were satisfied we had a squad of 25 and sufficient goal scoring options.

To be left with 24 and no obvious back up in the U21’s when we have “£170m” to play with just seems a bit of a mistake.

The common assumption is that we won’t spend the money on wages that a striker will demand, that just doesn’t work - strikers are paid more because they score goals and goals win matches.

But if we really are not wanting to pay that level of wage then don’t let Taylor or McAtee go out on loan.

Our last resort now is the scraps of the Free Agent market, it should never have go to that.
