    Simon Jordan then asked about the prospect of an offer from a ‘significant’ Championship side, and he replied: “I think at the moment, my aim is the Premier League.

    “I want to see the season start, clubs maybe need a winger, might have injuries, might realise they’re short in that area, might need my services. So I’m going to wait probably a week or so to see if there’s any Premier League options.

    “Yes [sign after the window as a free agent], but I wouldn’t want to ideally because I missed the whole of last season. I didn’t play at all so I wouldn’t want to get into a situation now where I’d probably be playing catchup If I waited until September.

    “Now, I’m fully fit, I’ve just finished my stint at Burnley, I’m ready to go. I’ll probably leave it a week or so and then I’ll start branching out of the Premier League.”

    The article was dated 11 August - he was going to wait "a week or so". Six weeks later, he is still waiting. Why has no other team signed him?

    He says himself that he would probably be playing catch up if he left it until September.

    Do we need a winger? You said yourself that we need an established striker.
