The atmosphere at most home games has been excellent for a few years now and was especially good last season. For some reason it's tailed off since the turn of the calendar year and there have been other isolated games where it's not been the best. Wigan, Grimsby and Cardiff perhaps not being the most inspiring series of games hasn't helped coupled with poor home form

You're always going to get the odd game here and there which is poor atmosphere-wise

In the 80s, which you refer to, I'm afraid your recollection does not match mine. I can recall a fair few games where the atmosphere was flat even back then. And going to away games those days where the home crowd was flat too. But we often think that it was better in the old days - not just regards football
