"Immigrants come here for one reason, they know they will get handouts left right and center and they know they will end up being given a home." I'm sure that's at least two reasons (and a non-UK English spelling of centre), but anyway...

I bought my house from a Spaniard. When I moved in, I had immigrants living next door to me on both sides. On one side was a Canadian couple and on the other a French family. Eventually the Canadians moved to Cambridge for a better work/life balance. The French family sold up (to a Brazilian man) and moved back to France. Meanwhile an Italian and her two daughters moved into the house next door to the Brazilian.

They were all 'immigrants' but I'm pretty sure none of them came to the UK because they expected to "get handouts left right and center and [ ... } end up being given a home".
